2002 Student Biographies
 

Born in Mexico, Aaron now attends the Luz Academy of Tucson College Preparatory in Tucson, Arizona, where he was Student Body President this year. He is the student coordinator for the Luz Community Learning Centers and participates in the Cesar Chavez Leadership Institute at Arizona State University. He is also involved with a Youth Group and Bible Study.

At the Sandy Spring Friends School in Sandy Spring, Maryland, Amaya is President and founder of the Multicultural Club, and is also a member of Amnesty International. She is an all-star soccer and lacrosse player and enjoys skiing and snowboarding.

Alan is a philosophy club member and newspaper staff writer at Fort Worth Country Day School in Fort Worth, Texas. He is also a class representative for a volunteer service organization.

Amy attends the St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Potomac, Maryland where she is president of I2I, a club devoted to gender issues. She spent a month as a foreign exchange student in France and is president of the Youth Chapter of the Million Mom March in Montgomery County.

Andrew made the Dean’s List at St. Stephens and St. Agnes School in Alexandra, Virginia. He is involved with the Thespian Society, Speech and Debate Club, and Technology club.

Bernard attends the Eleanor Roosevelt School in Greenbelt, Maryland, where he is very active in both local and national Student Government Associations. He was Teen Jeopardy! Tournament Champion for 2002.

Benjamin is a student at St Albans and serves as an acolyte at the National Cathedral. He plays for the varsity tennis team and runs cross country. He sings with the boy’s chorale, and exercises his community service talents volunteering at Friendship Terrace, a local community-based organization.

Ben runs track and cross country at Lathrop High School in Fairbanks, Alaska. He is also an active member of the Student Council and participates in the Lutheran Youth Organization Board.

At St. Margarets School in Tappahannock, Virginia, Brittany plays varsity basketball and soccer. She co-heads the Community Service Activity, works at the "I Have a Dream" Foundation, and holds a job at BB and T Bank.

Cynthia takes part in several multicultural clubs at Noble and Greenough School in Dedham, Massachusetts, including the Asian culture club. She plays varsity squash and loves singing with her school’s choral groups.

Christopher attends East High School in Memphis, Tennessee. He is involved with the Health Occupations Students of America, the organization Before AIDS Destroys U, and works for several service organizations. He is also in the Gospel Choir and is a Youth Minister at his church.

At The Columbus Academy in Gahanna, Ohio, Elaine participates in the Student Council and plays clarinet for the concert band. Through the Service Board, she organizes and participates in community service projects including Faith Mission, the United Food Bank, Meals on Wheels and recycling.

Emily works with community service organizations at White Station High School in Memphis, Tennessee and with the Memphis Rotary club. She has published work in the Young Poets Anthology and is publicity manager of her school’s literary magazine.

Ethan attends Langley High School in McLean, Virginia, where he has participated in every production since his freshman year. He is a member of the Thespian Honor Society and the Interlinks club, which works with autistic students. He plays piano and tennis.

Ethan attends West Valley High School in Fairbanks, Alaska. He serves as Sergeant of Arms of his local Key Club, volunteers with Little League Baseball, and is involved with his church. He is also an active member of Boys State.

Ford attends Trinity Christian Academy in Dallas, Texas, where he is involved in his Student Government Association and the National Art Honor Society. He has dedicated much time to public service, including volunteering for a US Senate campaign.

Hampden attends St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Potomac, Maryland, where he serves on the Vestry. He runs cross country and plays tennis, and enjoys his art classes immensely. He recently completed two public service building projects, one in Tennessee and one in Mexico.

HiramJesus attends the Luz Academy of Tucson in Tucson, Arizona; after school, he works for his family's Autoglass business. He enjoys mountain biking, rock climbing, and snowboarding, is a member of his Youth Group, and volunteers on weekends for the Kino Community Hospital.

Jill attends The Academy of the Holy Cross in Kensington, Maryland, where she is on the Executive Board of the Student Council. She participates in the Model United Nations, a mentorship program, and plays varsity Field Hockey and Softball.

Kai-Martin spent his junior year as an exchange student at St Albans High School in Washington DC, where he enjoyed performing with the drama club. In the fall he will return to his home in Germany to graduate and continue his work with the Junge Union, a youth organization of the Christian Democratic Union.

Katie participates in the Student Government and Discipline Committee for the Community School of Naples, in Naples, Florida. She is also a member of the French Team and drama club and, outside of school, the Naples Rowing Association and the USA Equestrian Association. She can play the saxophone.

Born in Sierra Leone, West Africa, Mariama now attends Ridgeway High School in Memphis, Tennessee, where she participates in the Key Club, French Club, and Catch Club. She works for the community good through the Rotary Club and the National Conference for Community and Justice.

Madeleine attends The Hockaday School in Dallas, Texas. She has built houses in Romania and in Paraguay with Habitat for Humanity, and has won awards for her photography and poetry.

Mark attends Charles Herbert Flowers High School in Springdale, Maryland, where he participates in the Principal’s Philosophy seminar and serves on the Renaissance Academic Excellence committee. He also works on the Student Government Association.

Nathaniel attends The Columbus Academy in Gahanna, Ohio. He incorporates his skills as a web designer into his passion for community service through several school service websites. He is also captain of the Dublin Crew team and Design Editor for the school yearbook.

In Haverford, Pennsylvania, at The Haverford School, Robert works for the Model United Nations club and is a school tour guide. He has worked for Habitat for Humanity and plays in the Haverford Township Rugby Club.

Sara is a dancer and choreographer with several organizations in her hometown of Evanston, Illinois, where she attends Evanston Township High School. She enjoys Spanish and has studied in Costa Rica and the Cuauhnahuac Institute in Cuernavaca, Mexico.

A member of the Art Club at Catholic High School in Huntsville, Alabama, Tyler devotes much of his time to community service through the Sankofa project. He enjoys science fiction, playing basketball, and is currently learning how to build computers.

Zack is a Student Advisory Council member at Providence Day School in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is the head of a middle school Bible Study for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and leader of his Youth Group.
