2003 Student Biographies
 

Liz attends Foxcroft School in Middleburg, VA, where she is the head of the Drama Club, Student Admissions, and Current Events and Debate Club. She also plays varsity basketball and lacrosse. She was for two years selected to receive Foxcroft’s award for the girl who displays leadership, and kindness toward her peers.

Rob attends Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, NH, but hails from Rye Beach, NH. He is co-founder of the school’s Ski Club, writes for The Exonian (school newspaper), plays varsity soccer and lacrosse, and won the ACL NJCL National Latin Exam Outstanding Achievement Award. He co-founded a clothing company, Abode Apparel which turned a profit in its first year and is a volunteer with Attitash Adaptive Skiing, a program for the disabled.

Emily attends the International Baccalaureate Program at George Washington High School in Denver, CO, and has traveled extensively, is fluent in French, participates in a number of student clubs and organizations, and is a longstanding member of the St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral Choir.

Victor attends Bell Multicultural High School in Washington, DC where he is a Peer Mediator, Victor is also plays trumpet in the Jazz Band, and was named “Most Distinguished Member” of the Latino Council against Alcohol and Tobacco. An avid chess player, he received the Denker National Chess Award and coaches chess at Rock Creek Elementary School. Victor plays varsity baseball.

Candice attends Luz Academy of Tucson, AZ, serves on the Student Council and was elected Student Body President last year. She is also the President of their National Honor Society, has been a Teen Attorney for five years with the Pima County Teen Court Program, several community service projects, and active in her congressman’s election.

Vanessa attends Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School in Washington, DC, received the MVP Award for junior varsity volleyball and is active in the Washington Tennis and Education Foundation Center for Excellence. She serves as Junior Class Treasurer, is a Ventures Scholar, and is a staff writer on the school newspaper.

Lowell attends Christ Church Episcopal School in Greenville, SC, is in the International Business program, volunteers at the Project Host soup kitchen, a project of Hands on Greenville, is a member of the Debate Club, and recently climbed to the top of Mt. Rainier. Theodore attends Princeton High School in Princeton, NJ, and has served as Class President during his freshman, sophomore and junior years. He is a managing editor of the school’s award-winning paper, a member of the Student Council, and co-President of the school’s Model United Nations chapter.

Alex attends National Cathedral School in Washington, DC, where she is the Drama & Whitechapel Guild President and is active in Drama Club and the Whitechapel Guild (which rings the bells of the Cathedral.) She is a member of the crew team and the Cappies (which writes reviews for area school drama performances.)

Seamus is a graduate of Simon’s Rock junior college, and a junior at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY, Seamus worked as a UNICEF representative and recently traveled to Angola, where he spoke with youth groups and local government officials and worked with the Children’s Fund.

Jake is a sophomore at Chatham High School in Chatham, NJ, Jake participates in Key Club, participated in the Princeton Model Congress in Washington, and is active in his church Youth Ministry. He plays soccer and track. He leads the 100-member Key Club in service hours.

Anne attends Polytechnic School in Pasadena, CA, served on the school’s judiciary committee in her sophomore year, was an intern last summer in her congressman’s district office, and worked on the mayor’s election campaign. She received the school’s MVP Award for junior varsity tennis and is a member of the school’s varsity soccer team.

Jeff attends Belmont Hill School in Belmont, MA, participates in school government (Senate and class president), is an editor on The Panel, the school newspaper, and sings in the B-Flats glee club. He is active in his church community service program. He is a member of the cross-country, cross-country ski, and crew teams. He has been active in Model United Nations, Amnesty International, Debate Team and Mock Trial.

Molly attends Laurel School in Shaker Heights, OH, is active in student government, Green Key (which promotes Laurel School, gives tours to visitors, etc.), Spanish Club, yearbook, the school newspaper, and Model United Nations. She plays varsity lacrosse and varsity field hockey (wing). She has volunteered through FOCUS/Campus Crusade and her church and will attend a mission trip to Taiwan later this summer.

Peter attends Polytechnic School in Pasadena, CA, Peter plays varsity tennis, is a Peer Mentor, and a junior class officer. He received the National German Scholar Award (from the American Association of Teachers of German) and the Polytechnic Credo (Integrity) Award. He teaches tennis at a local middle school.

Sasha attends Noble and Greenough School in Dedham, MA, and grew up in Moscow. She and her family emigrated to the US in 1996. She is vice president of the Asian Culture Club, is active in dance, and is a member of Shield as a school tour guide. Sasha is a figure skater, plays piano, sings in the church choir and teaches skating. She is proud of becoming fluent in English in less than two years. This summer she will also work as a translator for the Chernobyl Children Project.

Annie attends Robert Louis Stevenson School in Pebble Beach, CA, and lives in Salinas, CA. Awarded the Rickfels Award to the junior who embodies the academics, spirit, leadership and philosophy of the school, Annie stated a reading program for underprivileged children called ABC, Adventures in Books Club. She is also a member of Green Key, Student Council and volunteers through the National Charity League. She plays varsity lacrosse and field hockey.

Liliana attends Elizabeth Seton School in Bladensburg, MD, is active in the Literary Club, the Ecology Club, SADD, and the Latinas Club. She is a tennis player and a volunteer reader at the Hyattsville Library every weekend, reading books in Spanish to little children. Born in Mexico, Liliana came to the US nearly four years ago. She loves to tap dance.

Josh attends Central High School in Memphis, TN, was a city finalist in the National Chemistry Exam and a state finalist in the Duke University Talent ID Program. He is active in student council, the Mu Alpha Theta math society, the History Club, and a leadership organization called Bridge Builders which promotes student personal and social responsibility.

Hilary attends Providence Day School in Charlotte, NC, is a student government senator, National Beta Club member, entertainment editor of the Charger newspaper, and a varsity tennis player. Names one the best poets of 2002 by the International Library of Poetry, she also teaches tennis and plays in USTA tennis tournaments.

Gustavo attends St. Stephens and St. Agnes School in Alexandria, VA, is a dean’s list student who enjoys track and field and plays varsity soccer. Born in Cochabamba, Bolivia, Gustavo came to the US when he was in kindergarten. He is an enthusiastic member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Amber attends Luz Academy in Tucson, AZ, where she is Tutor of the Year. She is a member of the student council and writes for the school newspaper. An active volunteer through school and church, she worked at Ronald McDonald House and participated in Thanksgiving in the Barrio and Feed the Homeless events. She also volunteers at the Randolph Park Recreation Center, working with young children.

Sam attends Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn, NY, and took math classes at Columbia University. His Mock Trial team was in the top 8 (out of over 100) in the NYC tournament. He is Editor-in-Chief of the school literary magazine, Packer Current Items and Co-Leader of the Diversity Coalition. He tutors younger students and has worked as a Production Assistant for three summers at Bang Music, Inc.

Robert attends Memphis University School in Memphis, TN, is an Eagle Scout, the elected President of the General Assembly of the Tennessee Model UN, participates in Government Club, writes and edits for the school yearbook, newspaper and magazine, and is manager for the wrestling and track teams. He is an active community volunteer.

Hannah attends Marymount High School in Los Angeles, CA, and lives in Malibu. She is in the California Honor Society, was a delegate to the Global Youth Leadership Council in 2002, and is a member of the varsity equestrian team. She is a National Charity League volunteer. She works as the director of teenage marketing for a minor league baseball team.

Conor attends St. Albans School in Washington, DC, Conor served as Prefect in the Dormitory, promoting the students’ voice and participating in disciplinary actions. He is a member of the Government Club, the Politics Club, and does peer counseling.

Victoria attends Foxcroft School in Middleburg, VA, is co-head of the school’s Amnesty International chapter and attended an AI/Sierra Club youth conference on the rights on indigenous people in the Americas. She is in the Current Events/Debate Club and does volunteer work at So Other Might Eat and through her church youth group.

Amelia attends White Station High School in Memphis, TN, where she received the Rush W. Siler best student award. Amelia was selected for Tennessee Girl’s State, is on the student council executive board and is a member of the Facing History and Ourselves group and the Jaycettes Girls Service Club. She is active in Bridge Builders and NCCJ Camp Anytown.

Therese is a student at the Liechtensteinisches Gymnasium in Vaduz, Liechtenstein, Thera will receive the International Baccalaureate in two years after transferring to the international section of a boarding school in Switzerland. She is an active participant in school-related activities and is an especially avid skier.
