From
the time of Socrates, the ideal of education has been the exposure
of able students to stimulating teachers; the most elaborate facilities
would be hollow without a dedicated faculty to bring them to life.
At St. Albans School of Public Service, the teachers are the heart
of the School. The academic program is intended to ensure a continuing
exchange between students and their teachers. The 10:1 student-teacher
ratio means that classes are small and teachers are accessible throughout
the day for a conversation in the hallway or an individual conference.
Teachers at the School of Public Service bring diverse backgrounds
to the students. They have earned undergraduate and advanced degrees
at leading universities. Among the faculty are notable former officials
in government and industry, many of whom can bring first-hand insights
into the material of the cases.
In addition to the teaching faculty are visits from some case protagonists, practitioners and dignitaries in public service. In this regard, the way the school develops curriculum and approaches teaching is an innovative response to the need to bring both practitioners and educators together to ensure excellence and relevance in content.
